Fun and Learning at the Library for Children of All Ages
(and the young at heart as well)

The Whiting Library Youth Services department welcomes all patrons to explore a wide range of books for all readers, as well as DVDs, magazines, toys, games, fish, and so much more!

Whiting Library provide a welcoming, safe, respectful space for diverse voices and perspectives. No longer just a place for books, Whiting Library strives to develop and maintain programs and collections that are as diverse as the populations that we serve.

Youth Services Librarian, Carrie Roy King is always ready to help with book and activity recommendations. Be sure to check back often for the latest additions to our youth library collection. We’re cataloging new books every week, from picture books and early chapter books to middle-grade reads and young adult novels. Whether you’re looking for exciting adventures, heartwarming tales, or new favorite authors, there’s always something fresh on our shelves. Stop by and discover your next great read!

All Youth Library programs are offered in person downstairs in the Community Room or outside in the backyard.

Whiting Library is home to a weekly playgroup in Chester for the Wee Littles (0-5 years old) and their caregivers on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. This is a free, fun and relaxed gathering where little kids play while their grown ups supervise and socialize.

Young Adult Games for Kids aged 12 and up is held on Tuesdays @ 3 p.m. Enjoy Magic, the Gathering, a collectible trading card game of fun-filled, strategic games to play with friends old and new. Welcoming worldbuilders, narrative lovers, and gameplay enthusiasts alike. Magic has something for everyone and countless ways to play.

Story Time is geared for preschoolers but all ages are encouraged to join in the fun! Enjoy stories, poems, new book previews from the Library. Story Time is on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. for approximately 45 minutes long depending on the kids’ attention level. Look for this group in the Community Room downstairs or we may be outside in the backyard if the weather is clear.

Games Group for School Aged Kids is held weekly on Fridays at 3 p.m. Choose from a wide variety of classic board games, card games, WII games, Pokémon and more. Games are an essential component for information to be presented in new formats, that encourage critical thinking, problem solving, while encouraging socialization among peers.

No need to pre-register, simply drop in to the library Community Room.
