Vermont Reads: Gather Book Discussion

April 3 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us for a book discussion of this year’s Vermont Reads selection, “Gather.”

“Gather is a dog, but ‘Gather’ is about gathering together resources, people, and love.” — Judge’s citation, National Book Foundation

Since 2003, Vermont Humanities has invited students, adults, and seniors across the state to read the same book and participate in a wide variety of community activities related to its themes.

“Gather” addresses issues around its themes — rural life, resilience, class differences, addiction, housing and food insecurity, a deep relationship to the land, and the power of community. These same issues impact every Vermont town right now, including Bethel. Join us for a discussion of this National Book Award finalist, the questions it raises, and how we are dealing with those issues in our own towns.

Eric Bye will facilitate this discussion. He has been active with Vermont Humanities since the ’90s. His M.A. is in French language and literature, and he has also done graduate studies in Spanish and German. A freelance certified translator, he has translated several nonfiction books into English for several publishers. He is devoted to 18th—and 19th-century American and European novels and history.

Books are available at the Whiting Library checkout desk.
