SUMMARY:Stories from the Vermont Queer Archives
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fascinating presentation on LGBTQ+ history in our brave little state\, held October 3rd from 2 PM to 3:30 PM at the First Universalist Parish of Chester in the Stone Village. Objects such as banners\, T-shirts\, and buttons in the Vermont Queer Archives at the Pride Center of Vermont reflect currents and changes in the lives of Vermont’s LGBTQ+ community. \nMeg Tamulonis\, volunteer curator of the Archives\, discusses how these objects mark various milestones\, from Pride events to legal rulings\, and considers why some parts of the queer community aren’t well-represented in the Archives. She’ll explain why there aren’t many artifacts from the era before the Stonewall Uprising in 1969\, and some of the ways we can continue to gather and learn about Vermont’s many queer histories. \nThis presentation is made possible by Vermont Humanities and is part of the Vermont Reads 2026 statewide one-book reading program. Stop by the library to pick up a free copy of Tillie Walden’s Charity + Sylvia\, a graphic novel about an early Vermont same-sex civil union\, to participate in this year’s Vermont Reads.
