Whiting Library wants to hear from you about how we can increase the accessibility of our facilities, services, and programs. Through an American Library Association grant, we have received $20,000 to improve the library experience of our community members with age-related disabilities. Please join us for a discussion on the best use of these grant funds.
Three discussions will be held:
  • Wednesday, September 24 at 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 25 at 11 a.m.
  • Saturday, September 28 at 2 p.m.
REGISTER by email at director@WhitingLibrary.org or by phone at 802-875-2277.  Please let us know if you need any accommodations to participate in this conversation.  All participants will receive a $25 gift certificate to a local store of their choosing to thank them for their time and service.
If you cannot attend but have something to share, please get in touch with Gail Zachariah at Whiting Library. We can make individual appointments for in-person or phone discussions. We want to hear from everyone.

Earlier in the year, Whiting Library was selected as one of 310 libraries to participate in round two of Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities, an  American Library Association (ALA) initiative that provides community engagement and accessibility resources to small and rural libraries to help them better serve people with disabilities. .

Since 2014, ALA’s Libraries Transforming Communities initiative has re-imagined libraries’ role in supporting communities. Libraries of all types have utilized free dialogue and deliberation training and resources to lead community and campus forums, participate in anti-violence activities, provide a space for residents to come together and discuss challenging topics, and have productive conversations with civic leaders, library trustees, and staff. “Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities is an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) in collaboration with the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL).”
